Employment & Training

My name is Linda Johnnie. I am a member of the Takla First Nation band. I have worked with Lake Babine Nation since 1999. I worked in various departments within Lake Babine Nation and have enjoyed all my positions. I have been in Employment & Training since 2007. I have worked as an Employment & Training clerk and Native Liaison with Burns Lake Native Development Corporation in the past. This job is very challenging and rewarding as Lake Babine has a huge membership from Burns Lake to Fort Babine.

As of July 1, 2010, the Lake Babine Nation Employment & Training has gone under a new agreement. The Aboriginal Skills Employment Training Strategy was designed to improve the employment opportunities of Aboriginal peoples. The ASETS provides funding to Aboriginal organizations to support the costs of programs, services and other activities undertaken by those organizations which are designed to increase the participation in the Canadian labour market.

The Employment & Training programs sole purpose is to assist Status members that reside on reserve (Woyenne, Tachet, Fort Babine). Members that reside off reserve will be referred to Burns Lake Native Development or other agencies out of town.

INDIVIDUAL COURSE PURCHASE

Before you sign up for any courses,

  1. You must fill out Participant Information Form (see Program Services worker)
  2. Provide an updated resume and any other certificates that will assist with getting your funding approved.
  3. Provide a letter to E & T stating why Training will be beneficial to you.
  4. Provide proof of registration for course (if applicable)
  5. Provide letter of acceptance or sponsorship form from the Educational Institution. Applications are reviewed by the General Manager thus; the process is a 10 (ten) day waiting period. ABSOLUTELY NO LAST MINUTE REQUESTS. It is important to always include your social insurance number and your status number, without these numbers your application will not be processed.

IF you apply for a course and are approved, you are responsible to attend or make any arrangements with CNC on attendance.  If you don't attend you will be put you in overpayment with LBN E & T and your future funding is affected unless you set up a repayment plan with E & T.

  • Training must be offered in British Columbia and cannot exceed 12 months.
  • To be eligible for the program you must not be considered full-time employed
  • For long term courses, you are recommended to seek help with Lake Babine Education for cost share for tuition and supplies.

MOBILITY PROGRAM

Mobility is A ONE TIME provision for applicants who require assistance in re-locating to another area for confirmed employment. YOU MUST HAVE:

  • A bona fide letter of full-time permanent employment CANNOT BE SEASONAL
  • PIF Form & Resume
  • Applications are reviewed & approved by the General Manager
  • Limitations may apply.

Once again if the PIF form is not complete with all pertinent information the application WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. ABSOLUTELY NO LAST MINUTE REQUESTS
