As a follow-up to the Community & Economic Development workshop held in May 2007, a powerpoint presentation was developed for education of our band members and other interested parties regarding the need for economic development planning in our community. Focusing on the linkage between community and economic development, the current needs and existing programs available to band members and the need to participate in planning efforts to ensure success.
An interesting presentation, it is available for download as a PDF for easy viewing.
LBN Community & Economic Development Workshops 2007
On May 2, May 3 and May 8 Community and Economic Development Workshops were held in the Lake Babine Nation Communities. These workshops were well attended and informative for all who participated.
The workshop focused on 3 main areas or ideas; community development, linkage and economic development.
Community development refers to the existing situations and its potentials: location, population, demographics, action to wellness plans, workability of community based projects.
Linkage is an area of processing where Members have identified their responsible areas and to those areas where priority setting is important.
Economic development is community based work, short or long term projects, sustainable business developments, partnerships, and joint ventures.
Following are links to the official letter to workshop participants from Frank Alec - General Manager and a summary of results and comments from the workshop participants available as PDF documents which are easily downloadable and printable.

What’s next after the Workshops?
Once Community workshops have taken place in all communities and as part of the process all participants will be provided with their input in the workshop. This written report back to the participants ensures that the responsibility is placed back with those who were present. This process will then work itself toward an LBN Community & Economic Development Forum. The key is commitment to this process by those who participated.
