Our purpose is to instill hope, belief, honesty and trust in ourselves, our families and our communities, which will help us to maintain our healing journey, not as one, alone, but united in spirit, culture and tradition.

Services

With this vision in mind, the Lake Babine Nation Wellness Team is here to provide services to help you along the road to recovery.  The following is a list of services the Wellness Team is able to provide:

Introduction

Hadi!  My name is Mary Lynn Crouse.  I am the new Clinical Intake Receptionist with the Lake Babine Nation Health and Wellness Department.  I work closely with the Wellness Team by scheduling appointments for the counsellors, administration duties, maintain the filing system, correspondence etc. 
This is not my first time working with the LBN Health Department.  I am happy to be back working for the nation and with the people.  I am located in the downstairs area of the Main Complex alongside the Wellness Team.

Wellness Team Members

Monique William – Drug & Alcohol Counsellor – Fort Babine
Monique William, hereditary name – Nikh Skwa la han - is a member of the Lake Babine Nation and has worked in Fort Babine since 1994.  As of February 21, 2009, Monique has been with the Lake Babine Nation for 15 years.  Congratulations Monique! 
Mrs. William has completed extensive training in Life Skills, Self/Family Healing and Personal Growth.  She has also graduated from the Community Wellness Worker Training at Nechi Institute in 1998.  Monique has facilitated workshops, community gatherings, healing circles, women`s groups and one-on-one counseling.  Mrs. Williams also provides ongoing treatment programs for clients.

James August – Drug & Alcohol Counsellor – Woyenne
James August began working at LBN on January 23, 2006.  James is originally from the community of Squilax BC, which is a part of the Shuswap Nation.  Mr. August is the proud father of six children and grandfather to fifteen grandchildren.  On March 7, James will be 62 years old going on 40!  Be sure to wish James a Happy Birthday the next time you see him.
During the year 2002, James moved from Squilax to Saskatoon Saskatchewan where he got his training as an addictions counsellor at the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology.  He also has a diploma in Business Administration and a certificate in aboriginal traumatic stress from The Justice Institute.  There are also numerous other certificates from other workshops.  Mr. August is presently in training to get another certificate in Mental Health and Addiction through the College of New Caledonia. 
James will be 27 years sober this December.  It is his living experience that has taught him about the sickness of alcohol and where alcohol can take the mind and the crazy thinking of alcohol.  James has experienced alcoholism, grief and loss, trauma and other illness’ created through his previous use of alcohol.
James is able to provide, one-on-one counselling, group counselling, family work, small circles, treatment center preparation, detox placement and facilitating workshops  James is a very confidential, very caring and a very kind person.  When you come to see him, he will listen and be able to understand most, all or some of what you are going through.

Howard Vincent Adult Mental Health Counsellor
Howard Vincent has been with the Wellness Team, full-time, since June 5, 2006.  However, Howard has worked off and on with the Lake Babine Nation Wellness Team since April 1997. 
Mr. Vincent is an Anishinaabe from the Lac Seul First Nation in Northern Ontario, located near Sious Lookout, Ontario.  He has been working with First Nation communities since 1992 in the healing and counselling field. 
Howard’s skills include Crisis Intervention, Grief & Loss counselling, working with youth, men and woman’s group, one-on-one counselling, facilitating healing workshops & conferences and key note speaking. 
Mr. Vincent graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Counselling Skills, Level I Certificate in June 1992.  Thereafter, he completed the Alcohol & Drug Counsellor Training Program at the Native Education Center - Vancouver in 1993.  Howard has also done Men’s Domestic Violence Counsellor Training at the United Native Nations – Vancouver in 1994.  Not only has Howard completed his training in school to become the counsellor he is today but has a life-time of experiences, knowledge and understanding. 

Jeremy Belyea – Child & Youth Mental Health Counsellor
Jeremy Belyea, M. Ed., CCC, RCC, started with the Wellness Team on June 19, 2008.  Mr. Belyea graduated in 2008 with a Masters in Counselling from UNBC.  He also has two different counselling designations from the Canadian Counselling Association and the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. 
Jeremy has been serving the community for almost a year and is happy to be providing counselling services to the children & youth of Lake Babine Nation (up to the age of 25) and their families. He spends a majority of his time working within the three different schools in Burns Lake.

Prayer Minister


Services provided by Gaylene.

• See individuals who may need prayer support/help for difficult areas in their lives, respecting confidentiality in all situations
• Sometimes have people drop by my office when there is an immediate need, or call and make an appointment. I see some people regularly, and others one time
• Make home and hospital visits to those who are sick, troubled or grieving. The individual or family member can request and I will come to see them
• Work with other members of Wellness team as spiritual support
• Guide families/groups in grief support
• Lead bible study/prayer time for LBN every Wednesday from 11:30-1:00. All who have a heart to pray are welcome to join us. Sharing is kept confidential.
• Attend memorials, funerals, meetings as prayer support
• Assist with concerts, gatherings, group prayer meetings
• Be open to requests, ideas, suggestions of ways to help others on their spiritual journey
