Health

Summary of Health Vision

The Lake Babine Nation’s (LBN) vision is for members to enjoy a high level of mental and physical well-being thanks to a holistic approach to health and wellness.

This means not only improving health programs and services in all five Communities and for members living in urban centres, but also tackling social determinants of health such as housing and child and family programmes and services.

Health services and programmes will become grounded in Lake Babine culture and will include traditional healing and practices.

Summary of Health Milestones and Key Steps

The short-term Health Milestone is to secure improvements to the delivery of health programmes and services for members in the five Communities and in urban centres. A Lake Babine Health Advisory Team will be established to lead this work.

The Advisory Team will then develop the Nation’s Holistic Health Strategy that will include preventive care, nutrition, mental health, substance abuse, and traditional healing and practices. Lake Babine will put priority health proposals to Lake Babine/British Columbia/Canada Working Group for discussion and the negotiation of additional funding.

Lake Babine will also establish Planning Teams to develop plans for a Healing Centre and an Elders and Disability Centre. Once the Plans are ready, Lake Babine will pursue funding from Canada, British Columbia and additional funding sources.

Key Steps

  • Issue call for members of Health Advisory Team.
  • Put priority health proposals to Lake Babine/British Columbia/Canada Working Group for discussion and the negotiation of additional funding.
  • Build a Healing Centre and an Elders and Disability Centre.
